Sika wins award for Northampton car park
Sika have won top International award as material supplier during the refurbishment of Mayorhold Car Park in Northampton.
Sika Limited have won a top International award as the material supplier during the refurbishment of Mayorhold Car Park in Northampton, which was recently completed by Makers Car Park division The International Concrete Repair Institute, which is based in America, has awarded the Mayorhold refurbishment its premier award, Project of the Year 2006, beating competition from entries around the world

Sika concrete repair systems have been used to refurbish 45 year old tower blocks in the London Borough of Islington.

The nine-month, GBP3.1 million refurbishment was judged on many criteria, including uniqueness, use of 'state of the art' methods and materials, value engineering, cost effectiveness, functionality and aesthetics.

Car park refurbished using Sika Repair Systems
Mayorhold Multi-Storey car park situated in the centre of Northampton, with spaces for 880 cars, has recently been refurbished using Sika concrete repair and coating systems.
Embassy Court Deco-rated With Sika
Embassy Court, a Grade 2 listed, Art Deco style, 11 story building, situated on the Brighton sea front, is being extensively refurbished using Sika concrete repair systems and coatings.
To ensure the future integrity of the car park decks, a ribbon anode Cathodic Protection system, designed by ICRI members C-Probe Systems Limited, was installed to completely stop steel corrosion in critical areas.
Sika FerroGard 903 corrosion inhibitor was applied locally, to reduce steel corrosion and add protection to the reinforcing steel in other areas.
The combination of these corrosion control methods provides a cost efficient, technically driven solution.
A remote monitoring on a virtual private network was installed to allow the client to have a full picture of the structural condition of the car park and potentially predict any future need for maintenance several years in advance, to assist with phasing and budgeting of such works.
Following repairs and preparation using Sika Rapid Repair mortar, Sikafloor car park decking systems were applied to the top and all intermediate decks.
Sika repair mortars, protective coatings and decking membranes for car parks are tested in accordance with the German Rili-DAfStb standard (equivalent to the British Standard in the UK).
This standard is the most complete and complex standard for those applications; in fact it is the only one that tested and categorised car park decking membranes, and has had a significant influence on the development of the new European Standard on repair mortars, protective coatings and waterproofing membranes.
Soffits and pillars were repaired using the Sika MonoTop concrete repair system, and Sika FerroGard 903 corrosion inhibitor was applied.
SikaColor 671W, an anti-carbonation decorative coating was applied to all surfaces.
This environmentally friendly, water based, protective coating prevents water ingress, is vapour permeable and extremely durable.
All contributors to the project, including Northampton Borough Council, Sika Limited, Makers Car Parking and C-Probe Systems Limited have been recognised and awarded with certificates acknowledging their participation in the project.
The ICRI's Award of Excellence was awarded to Makers and Sika in 1999 for the refurbishment of St Annes Court in Surrey, a Grade II listed building.
