Sikafloor Selected By Rolls-Royce

A Sika product story

The new Rolls-Royce manufacturing plant and head office at Goodwood, West Sussex has been floored using specialist industrial flooring systems produced by Sika-Armorex.

The 35,000 sq metres of assembly and paint shop areas have been installed with Sikafloor systems, including the dry shake surface hardening material Armorshield.

This is a formulation of cement, pigment, tough synthetic aggregates and admixtures that are sprinkled onto the surface of the new, wet concrete floor slab.

The resultant monolithic surface provides an exceptionally tough and durable floor that has a British Board of Agrement durability certificate for 25 years.

Sikafloor systems used within the plant assembly, surface technology centre and upholstery zones include the self smoothing resin screeds Sikafloor 261 and Sikafloor 262AS.

The latter is an electrostatically conductive system that was installed in specific areas of the Goodwood plant where the floor had to have static dissipative properties.

These floors produce a 3mm surface on the concrete base that is highly durable, has good abrasion and chemical resistance, is easily maintained, fast to apply and provides an aesthetically pleasing appearance in a range of colours.

It is possible to apply these durable, impervious coatings to a new concrete slab by the use of Sika EpoCem technology.

This allows any type of floor finish to be applied to new concrete and screeds, without the usual risks from moisture, or the uncertainty of moisture suppressant paints.

Many of the Rolls-Royce floor zones had the final finish installed by specialist contractor Zircon within just 2 weeks of placing the base concrete.

Sikafloor systems have been installed in plants of the BMW Group throughout the world over many years, most recently at their Oxford BMW Mini works and the Hams Hall engine plant.

The involvement of Sika with BMW extends beyond their floors - every BMW car will have its glazing unit (windscreen) installed using fast curing permanently elastic Sikaflex adhesives.
