Sika's Icoment 520 levelling mortar and SikaGard 550W, an elastic, anti carbonation, protective, decorative coating, are being used in the construction of Spinnaker Tower at Portsmouth Harbour.
The multi-purpose auditorium can seat 1,400 people and will be used for conferences, exhibitions, sporting events and concerts in addition to the activities on race days.
The total floor area of 3100 square metres needed to be colourful and attractive as well as providing long term durability, architects Limbrick Limited specified the Sika-Armorex dry shake material Sikafloor-1 MetalTop.
This is a blend of hard alloy aggregates containing titanium, producing one of the hardest surfaces of all flooring systems.
The green colour of the floors at The Centaur was chosen from the Sikafloor colour range and as the pigment is integrated within the materials, it cannot wear off.
The dry shake material was sprinkled directly onto the surface of the new, wet concrete floor slab.
This fuses with the concrete when powerfloated, forming a monolithic surface that dramatically enhances durability, especially abrasion and impact resistance.
A chemical treatment provided enhanced slip-resistance that increases with age, as does the aesthetic quality of the floor.
The finished surface at The Centaur was sealed with a spray coat of Sikafloor ColourSeal to enhance the appearance and protect the surface.
A good quality dry shake flooring surface is some 20 times as abrasion resistant as powerfloated concrete and Sika-Armorex's Sikafloor-1 MetalTop has a British Board of Agrement 25 year durability certificate.
Some dry shake floors have stood a much longer test of time, and Sika-Armorex are still proudly taking customers to see floors they installed nearly 35 years ago.
