Sika's Cavity Drainage system has recently been installed in the basement of a large domestic property in Blackheath, London.

The property is being totally refurbished from top to bottom, and the owner was keen to make use of the existing damp basement area as extra living accommodation The Sika Cavity Drainage system was chosen as a fast and cost - effective solution to totally waterproof the basement area and specialist contractors Aquarend Limited installed the membrane system

The Sika Cavity Drainage System comprises profiled polyethylene and polypropylene sheeting, which once installed to both walls and floor will allow water seepage to flow into drainage sumps for pumping into the main drainage system.

It is impermeable to water, gas and water vapour.

This type of waterproofing system proves ideal for basements with weak, friable masonry unable to withstand an increase in water pressure, or where movement is present in the structure.

Following installation of the Sika Cavity Drainage system, plasterboard dry lining was erected to provide a clean watertight living space.

As an alternative, newly waterproofed walls can be finished with the application of sand and cement renders or most lightweight and renovating plasters, ie Sika Whitewall applied directly to the drainage membrane.

With Sika's full range of waterproofing solutions, architects, designers and contractors have a complete choice of waterproofing solutions for all types of building construction.

With the Sika name and reputation client's can be confident in creating a permanently dry usable basement area.
