Sika car park deck coating systems have recently been used at the prestigious new development in St Paul's Sq, Liverpool.

This is the first phase of a larger master plan for Liverpool's new central business district being developed by English Cities Fund The car park, designed by RHWL Architects is a steel frame structure with insitu reinforced concrete floor slabs

Car park structures are subject to severe environmental conditions such as thermal expansion, freeze/thaw damage, UV, atmospheric carbonation, as well as chloride attack from de-icing salts and exposure to aggressive pollutants such as brake fluids and exhaust emissions from the vehicles themselves.

Sika car park decking systems are designed specifically for this unfriendly environment.

Specialist contractors Tynedale Flooring, working for main contractor Shepherd Construction applied the Sikafloor 350 Elastic system to the top decks.

Sikafloor 350 is an elastomeric polyurethane top deck coating system that is extremely durable with excellent crack bridging properties.

It is impervious with good resistance to weathering and UV.

The ground floor slab was coated with Sikafloor 261, to give a slip resistant, hardwearing surface.

This epoxy based, solvent free flooring system, is durable, waterproof, chemically resistant, and fast and easy to apply.

Sika repair mortars, protective coatings and decking membranes for car parks are tested in accordance with the German Rili-DAfStb standard (equivalent to the British Standard in the UK).

This standard is the most complete and complex standard for those applications; in fact it is the only one that tested and categorised car park decking membranes, and has had a significant influence on the development of the new European Standard on repair mortars, protective coatings and waterproofing membranes.
