SikaWrap Hex-230C carbon fibre fabric system used to confine and strengthen concrete columns that support the first floor cantilevered section of Annan Academy in Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland.

Deterioration of the concrete over this 40 year period had weakened the structure and additional, substantial propping had been put in place to ensure the integrity and safety of the building SikaWrap Hex-230C was chosen by Design Services, Dumfries and Galloway Council's in-house consultant in conjunction with their sub-consultant Mouchel Parkman, as the ideal solution to return strength to the concrete columns with as little visual impact as possible

SikaWrap Hex-230C is a woven uni-directional carbon fibre fabric that is bonded to the structure using Sikadur - 330 epoxy resin which is specially formulated for this application.

Following extensive repairs, specialist contractors Quickseal Limited roller applied Sikadur -330 to the columns onto which several layers of SikaWrap was fitted, ensuring that the fabric weave was penetrated by the resin at each stage.

The refurbishment has fulfilled the clients criteria of returning the integrity of the building as quickly as possible with little disruption and little aesthetic impact.

SikaWrap fabrics are a group of strengthening materials produced from carbon fibres and aramid fibres, all designed with specific qualities for specific engineering and refurbishment requirements.

They are speedily fitted with low visual impact and are designed for Confinement and Shear, Seismic, Impact and Flexural Strengthening, and are applied using the Sikadur range of epoxy resins.
