Toughest floor surface for exhibition hall

A Sika product story

Sikafloor - 1 MetalTop floor surface, thought to be the toughest available anywhere in the world has been installed in a new exhibition hall at the East of England Showground, Peterborough.

The surface material is a dry formulation containing cement powder, admixtures and hard alloy aggregates containing titanium that is sprinkled onto the new, wet concrete floor slab.

The flooring system known as Sikafloor - 1 MetalTop fuses into the wet concrete forming a monolithic surface that when cured, is reckoned to be 20 times as abrasion resistant as regular powerfloated concrete.

The finished floor of the 4,500 square metre exhibition hall is an attractive classic grey colour, is exceptionally durable and easy to clean and maintain.

Two further distinct advantages over other flooring systems are speed, as no additional time is needed as the surface is applied at the same time the concrete slab is poured, and the overall cost is lower.

Design and installation was by specialist concrete flooring contractors, Twintec who utilised a steel fibre reinforced concrete which dramatically improves the toughness of the floor and eliminates the need for induced contraction joints.
