Sika Watertight Concrete for York swimming pool

A Sika product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Feb 26, 2010

Sika Watertight Concrete has been used in the redevelopment of a swimming complex in York, incorporating two admixtures to ensure effective water-tightness.

The recently opened pool at the Oaklands Leisure Centre, which has now been re-named Energise, will replace the nearby Edmund Wilson Pool, which at 40 years old had come to the end of its service life.

Tarmac supplied Sika Watertight Concrete to form the base and walls of the main pool, as well as a beginner's pool and hydrotherapy pool.

The Sika Watertight Concrete system was specified for its ease of use, supported by technical advice by Sika.

The BBA certified Sika Watertight Concrete system incorporates two powerful Sika admixtures.

The admixtures work by reducing the water cement ratio, while producing a highly workable concrete to aid placement and compaction.

They also block the remaining capillary pores.

The Sikaswell jointing system was used to seal the joints between the concrete slabs, ensuring the water-tightness of the structures.

This system consists of joint sealing profiles that expand on contact with water.
