Silcock Dawson launch EPC service offering
Silcock Dawson launched range of services covering all aspects of regulations to provide Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), including the reporting of recommendations for improvements.
With Energy Performance Certification for commercial buildings due to come into force in 2008, leading building services consulting engineers, Silcock Dawson, has launched a range of services covering all aspects of the regulations to provide Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), including the reporting of recommendations for improvements.
"Our continued commitment to providing a first rate consultancy service to our clients remains," explains John Silcock, co-founder and director of Silcock Dawson.
"We make it our business to be at the forefront change and as such it was crucial that we could offer this service and support our clients through the enactment of this latest legislation".
The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certifications and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations is the UK's response to the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) but, with the first date for this legislation to become mandatory fast approaching concern is growing at the number of accredited assessors available to issue certificates.
As from the 6th April 2008 commercial buildings, new build or existing, over 10,000m2, being sold or leased will require an EPC that has been issued by an accredited assessor and added to a national database.
"As with any legislative change, the need to be able to get access to the right information and quickly is important".
"Our team is competent in the use of SAP 2005, SBEM and IES dynamic simulation software approved for EPCs and we are already helping many customers get grips with what is required for later this year".
Much of the finer detail has yet to be formalised including the information specified on the certificates and the calculation methodology of commercial operational ratings.
The accreditation process and accreditation schemes for assessors are still being reviewed and finalised, as is the national database required under the regulations.
The EPC initiative is led by Silcock Dawson's energy and sustainable design division, launched in 2006 under the direction of Barry Redman.
The division has been instrumental in positioning Silcock Dawson as a leading exponent of sustainable development solutions.
"With the mandatory dates imminent we have made sure that we have the necessary skills and resources in place to respond to the expected huge demand for EPCs from owners and developers of commercial property".
"Although the final details for the format of the EPCs and the approved accreditations schemes are not yet in place, we are able to do much of the necessary preparation work to enable certificates to be produced quickly," says Redman.
