Improved quality in the asbestos removal
Silverdell Plc have led an initiative which will result in important changes to the asbestos removal industry and a UKAS Accredited Certification Scheme for Asbestos Removal Contractors.
A UKAS Accredited Certification Scheme for the Asbestos Removal Industry for the process of removing asbestos in the UK is being considered by key industry players following an initiative from market leaders, Silverdell Plc The concept will be presented to the HSE's Asbestos Licensing Group next week by Silverdell

Silverdell Academy awarded UKATA membership
Following a successful audit by UKATA (The United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association), Silverdell Academy for Excellence (SAFE) has been awarded membership.
The scheme will be independently owned and operated by the chosen Certification Body, a stakeholder group will be created and will be made up from UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service), ALU (Asbestos Licensing Unit), HSE, Asbestos Removal Contractors, Trade Associations, Client Groups, Asbestos Laboratories, Local Authorities, the Certification Body and Asbestos Training Providers.
Industry expert Robert Blackburn, Chairman of Redhill Analysts, part of the Silverdell Plc Group of Companies said: "This Scheme is about Contractors being able to demonstrate evidence of best practice through a certification scheme that formalizes an audit process for asbestos removal".
"The standard will be written by the stakeholder group and will allow Contractors to demonstrate tangible evidence of operational standards and performance".
"This will provide a better service to clients and give removal Contractors better control and management of their organisation".
The Scheme will create an asbestos removal standard and will raise industry standards as a whole.
The independent Certification Body will gain UKAS accreditation for the Scheme and will require professional qualifications for Industry Supervisors and Industry Operatives from accredited contractors.
UKAS is the sole national accreditation body recognised by government to assess, against internationally agreed standards, organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services.
