Skerritt win GBP18.2m prison contracts
Leading building services specialist Skerritt has won contracts worth GBP18.2m to supply services at HMP Nottingham and HMP Swaleside in Kent.
Skerritt, based on Union Road, has provided all the technical guidance that will make the prestigious landmark function as a mixed-use development and as a striking piece of architecture.
Now, a team of 90 plumbers, mechanical and electrical engineers are tasked with installing the range of services that will make Trinity Square operational.
The programme of work includes installing all external and internal lighting, ventilation systems, power sources, fire systems and plumbing and heating systems.
Skerritt's project manager for Trinity Square, Gary Murray, who also worked on the mammoth Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent, said: "Without a doubt, this is a complex project to deliver".
There are three levels of car parking sandwiched between two storeys of retail and six storeys of flats.
Each storey has different lighting, ventilation, power and heating requirements.
Gary said: "Notwithstanding that, we have been tasked with coming up with the way to illuminate the outside of the building and the public square with illuminated seating blocks and candle-style lamp posts".
"The architectural lighting treatment is unique so we have had to design bespoke solutions for each element".
Trinity Square is a GBP45m project by London-based developer Helical Bar and constructed by Shepherd Construction.
All of the sub-contractors, including Skerritt, are local firms.
