Martyn Berry, contributing design engineer, solarcentury explained, "We designed the roof tile primarily to make it easy for house builders to incorporate it in with their original house design as well as to generate clean electricity.
Because it fits quickly and easily to standard battens and integrates with common interlocking roof tiles they can be installed by any roofing contractor." The first installation of C21 takes place at the end of March in Allington, Lincolnshire for Gusto Construction who have a impressive record in sustainable housing design.
Steff Wright, CEO, Gusto Construction said, "It's imperative to us that each aspect of the design and construction of our homes must incorporate environmental good practice and that materials used should have the lowest possible impact on the environment during their manufacture, use and disposal.
Using photovoltaics in our homes is just part of this commitment and we're excited to be pioneering this new product from solarcentury." With funding from the Carbon Trust already secured, research to further develop and expand the functionality of C21 is already underway.
