Solarcentury wins Sunday Times RandD Award
Solarcentury, the UK's leading solar energy company, has won The Sunday Times Tech Track 100 research and development award.
Solarcentury, the UK ' s leading solar energy company, has won The Sunday Times Tech Track 100 research and development award.
The award was presented by The SundayTimes business editor John Waples to Jeremy Leggett, founder and CEO of Solarcentury.
This accolade recognises the best of research and development in the UK, selected from the country ' s fastest growing technology companies as ranked in Tech Track 100.
Solarcentury was established to drive innovation through research and development in solar energy, and it is the UK ' s fastest growing renewable energy technology company.
The company designs and installs solar energy products that integrate within the fabric of the built environment, to generate clean, on-site electricity and hot water for commercial, residential, industrial and public sector buildings.
Solarcentury is best known for its Low Carbon Building Products range, including solar louvers, rain screen cladding, and the unique solarcentury C21e solar roof tile.
The solar tile is becoming an increasingly popular solution for homeowners and housebuilders who can now integrate solar electric solutions into regular roofs.
The London based company ' s installations include the groundbreaking CIS Tower, Manchester and The Core, at the Eden Project in Cornwall.
Solarcentury has been recognised for its commitment to producing innovative low carbon solar products as the crisis of climate change escalates.
Following this year ' s alarming Stern Report, the business and public community are now seeking workable solutions to the problem of climate change; and Solarcentury is focused on finding innovative solutions for our existing and future built environment.
And fast action is sought, as The Royal Society, Tyndall Centre for Climate Change and others increase pressure on business and government to commit to a low carbon future.
Rising fuel prices and the need for energy security are increasingly encouraging the uptake of products.
Dan Davies, CTO, Solarcentury says: " The UK economy has for some time been lagging in terms of technology RandD; but we are now entering the exciting new era of renewable energy".
"Solarcentury is working towards a positive low carbon future, finding solutions that will become the natural choice for architects and developers of the future".
"Photovoltaics are a highly effective and reliable energy source and we have proven that with effective innovation, it is possible to transform our buildings into clean, silent and durable mini power stations".
He adds: " The government and business community are slowly beginning to realise that reducing carbon emissions, through the use of photovoltaics, actually makes better financial sense than leaving your money in the bank".
"With their support, we can look forward to a renewal of a positive technology industry, job creation and sustained economic growth - all whilst reducing C02 emissions".
Established in 1999, the company has designed and installed over 500 on-site renewable energy solutions.
This amounts to over 2.8 MW of photovoltaics in the UK, saving a total of 1.27 million kg of CO2 emissions.
House builders are now turning to micro-renewable technology from Solarcentury, including St James, Gleeson, and Barratt Homes.
With a proven 8.6% premium on homes with solar power, house builders have responded to consumer demand for more environmentally considerate homes.
