Electrical industry in Scotland gathered in Glasgow for the SELECT Electrotechnical Awards 2006.

The electrical industry in Scotland gathered in Glasgow on Wednesday 1st November 2006 to recognise and reward a year of innovation, dedication and excellence in a sector that is vital to the national economy.

Scottish Hydro Contracting scooped the principal prize of the Livingston UK Electrical Contractor of the Year Award in front of the cream of the electrical trade at a gala dinner in the Radisson SAS Hotel for the SELECT Electrotechnical Awards 2006.

The event was hosted by SELECT, the Electrical Contractors' Association of Scotland in association with CABLEtalk magazine.

The SELECT awards identify and reward excellence in the industry and aim to share best practice as widely as possible.

The winners include:.

* Electrical Contractor of the Year - Scottish Hydro Contracting.

* Lifetime Achievement Award - Pat Feeney, Thistle Generators.

* Apprentice of the Year - Scott Jones, Balfour Kilpatrick.

* Wholesaler of the Year - Scott Coppola, Edinburgh.

* Small Company of the Year - Lotus Electrical Services, Dumfries.

* Marketing Initiative of the Year - WWW Electrical, Glasgow.

* Training Initiative of the Year - R W Bell (Electrical) Pitlochry.

* Health and Safety Initiative of the Year - North Ayrshire Council.

During the evening, it was revealed that four Scottish electrical companies have become the first service providers to be licensed to display the prestigious and coveted BSI Kitemark on their work.

The Kitemark, Britain's premier symbol of trust, integrity and quality, has previously been used only on products and manufactured goods.

The companies who have been awarded this remarkable recognition of their standards are:.

* Robert Livingstone Electrical Contractors, of Torbrex, Stirling.

* WWW Electrical Contractors, Cambuslang, Glasgow.

* Graham Robertson Electrical Contractors, Bridge of Allan, Stirlingshire.

* R W Bell (Electrical) Pitlochry , Pitlochry, Perthshire.
