Scottish electricians have become the first service providers able to qualify to display the prestigious BSI Kitemark on their work.

Scottish electricians have become the first service providers able to qualify to display the prestigious BSI Kitemark on their work The move comes after the long-established quality assurance scheme appointed SELECT, the Electrical Contractors' Association of Scotland, as the first service provider authorised to award the BSI Kitemark symbol for electrical installations

The Kitemark, which is widely viewed as Britain's premier symbol of trust, integrity and quality, has previously only been used on products and manufactured goods.

Scottish electrical contractors who want to be eligible to use the Kitemark will have to meet strict SELECT criteria and demonstrate they meet the standards required.

They will then be able to use the Kitemark on their vehicles and signs, and apply it to electrical installations they have completed.

Before its appointment as service provider for the new Kitemark scheme, SELECT underwent a stringent inspection process which demonstrated that its internal processes and audit procedures were of the highest standard.

SELECT Managing Director Newell McGuiness said SELECT's position as the only electrical trade association to be offered partnership with BSI reinforced the "high esteem in which our membership criteria are held".

"Our rigorous entry criteria has earned SELECT the right to display the distinctive 'Kitemark'".

"This unique recognition accorded to SELECT by the British Standards Institution has captured the imagination of the SELECT membership.".
