Scotland's trade association for electrical contractors, SELECT, has appointed as its new President and Vice-President

Scotland's trade association for electrical contractors, SELECT, has appointed as its new President and Vice-President two men who each have huge experience of the industry.

Glasgow born Douglas Geddes, who succeeds David Smith as President, began as an apprentice with JB MacKenzie's in Edinburgh in1963 before going on to launch his own business, GandA Electrical Services, in 1970 - which he still runs today.

Through business life he has become an enthusiastic Rotarian - and in 2005 was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship by Rotary International.

The new Vice-President is another electrical specialist with equally broad experience of his profession.

Alick Smith, of Aberdeenshire, joined north-east firm Dow and Nicholson in 1965, later working with James Kilpatrick (now Balfour Kilpatrick) and as a senior manager withC and M Group.

He is now with Sleigh Electrical He is another "hands on" operator who, like Mr Geddes, is taking on his appointment at a crucial time for both the industry and SELECT - which now has over 1,000 member companies, the highest number in its history.
