Electrical awareness course for SELECT staff

A SELECT product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Nov 7, 2007

Non electrical qualified staff at SELECT, the Electrical Contractors' Association of Scotland, have participated in a one day Electrical Awareness Course.

The course has been developed by SELECT in response to a number of requests from various organisations, including local authorities, housing associations, architects, to provide housing managers, inspectors, clerks or works, building control officers and others with a general awareness of electrical systems.

David Wright, Head of External Affairs at SELECT, said: "The aim of the course is to provide enough knowledge for people to be able to inspect electrical installations and recognise defects, bad practice or situations where maintenance might be required.

"It is not intended to provide participants with the knowledge to undertake any electrical installation work, which should only ever be carried out by competent persons, but the level of understanding it gives people about electrical systems means that it will help our own admin and support staff better service the needs of our members".

The Electrical Awareness Course is run by Malcolm Duncan, SELECT's senior technical advisor.

Any organisation interested in finding out more about the course can contact Elaine Ellis on 0131 445 5577.
