Smart adds to fleet to enter the van mount market

A Smart Platform Rental product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jul 15, 2010

Smart Platform Rental, UK provider of light truck mount self drive rental platforms, has expanded its fleet with the introduction of van mounted cherry pickers.

Extensive research into customer's needs and a reviewof the market determined that a high basket capacity and formidable boom were important factors.

Following a search, the UK manufacturer Ascendant Access was chosen to supply the equipment.

Ascendant offered a fully insulated basket with 230kg capacity, a 12.5m working height and 7.7m outreach boom as well as a 300kg storage capacity in the van.

The V12 van mount has many other features that will benefit Smart's customers.

The boom has two independently operated booms for precise manoeuvring and has full pressure proportional hydraulic controls for a smooth and responsive operation.

Ease of operation was also important as with all Smarts vehicle mounts.

The van has stabiliser controls in cab with automatic activation of platform control when set.

The new vans are aimed at traditional casual hire users but Smart is also looking at the longer term hire users of powered access.

Guy Willett, commercial director, Smart Platform Rental, said: "The amenity/decorative lighting and CCTV installation sectors are just two of the markets we think the V12s will be a hit with and we feel they'll be interested in discussing the highly competitive long term rates that we can offer".

"Not that we're not appreciative of our long-established casual hire market and with the V12 rental starting from just GBP109 per day we're confident of them being highly utilised".
