Sash UK's factory in Barnsley have two brand new baling machines which are not only saving money, but complying with the environmental agenda to reduce the impact of waste on landfill.

As an added bonus, extra revenue is also being generated for the country's leading door, window and conservatory manufacturer by selling the bales to environmental groups With legislation dictating that non-hazardous waste must be treated before it goes to landfill, Sash has installed the balers to segregate the polythene and cardboard packaging from the waste streams

"These machines have made an enormous difference in just one week," comments Purchasing Manager at Sash, Steve Roberts.

"Segregating the waste in-house and at source saves us the cost of having to pay transfer stations to do it when they collect the skips".

"And on top of that, we can sell the completed bales to Land Polymers a company that specialises in polymer recycling and material reclamation".

"It's a win/win situation".

The balers have been installed on Sash's factory floor and existing staff have quickly picked up the habit of segregating the packaging".

"Since the balers have been installed, we have noticed a difference, notably that we have yet to empty the general compactor, saving time and manpower," continues Steve.

"The bales can also be stored externally so factory space is not compromised".

Commenting on the recent recycling initiative, Dave Ruzicka, Sash UK's joint managing director said: "As our business grows, it is imperative that we are accountable for every aspect of our operations".

"Introducing the baling machines to the shop floor further strengthens our ongoing commitment to improving our efficiencies as a business, but more importantly our surrounding environment".

Sash is dedicated and committed to improving its environmental footprint and the arrival of the balers is indicative of the company's proactive response to ongoing Government legislation to reduce wastage and improve the environment.
