The Track Unit of Balfour Beatty Rail Projects is making great strides in the buoyant UK rail market.

With its ability to offer the complete permanent way package, the Unit has recently been awarded works on over a dozen separate contracts for diverse range of customers throughout the UK As well as building on the success of previous contracts to win repeat business from existing clients, many of which are private sidings owners, the Unit is effectively developing relationships and opening up opportunities with new clients such as other civil engineering contractors

John Jenkinson, BBRP Track Unit Manager, said: "The Track Unit delivers successful projects using its experienced and dedicated skilled teams of people.

Although we undertake many contracts on large multi-disciplinary projects, much of our focus is on smaller projects.

"To manage the Unit's ever increasing workload and to continue to work closely with our clients, we have recently undertaken a recruitment campaign and employed additional staff from both railway and civil engineering backgrounds to supplement our existing teams.

Together, they have years of experience in these industries and skills that extend across the full spectrum, from business development and tendering to engineering and commercial management".

In addition to undertaking contracts for external clients, the Track Unit delivers projects for businesses within the Balfour Beatty Group.

For example, it is carrying out track relaying works on the A6 Matlock Diversion contract for Birse Civils Limited and on the Merthyr Frequency Enhancements Project, at Abercynon, South Wales for Birse Rail.

The Unit has also been awarded permanent way work on the Colchester-Clacton project for Signalling Solutions Limited, a new 50/50 joint venture company formed by Balfour Beatty and Alstom.

Like the operations side of the Track Unit, business is also brisk for the Unit's supplies business which has all types of new and serviceable rail and components available from stock at short notice.
