The South East Centre for the Built Environment is gearing up to tackle planning and environmental issues head on.

The South East Centre for the Built Environment (SECBE), the sector consortia for construction and built environment businesses in the region, is gearing up to tackle planning and environmental issues head on.

Housing, infrastructure, water shortages and waste issues affect all our futures and will have a growing impact on the economic success of the South East.

SECBE has made two strategic appointments to its Management Board to specifically increase momentum and delivery in these areas.

Mark Southwood, Managing Director of the Temple Group has been responsible for growing and developing a number of business's over the years and is also a Board Director for Temple Group and Barnards Management .

Mark has assisted many in the formulation of environmental policy and strategy including the Greater London Authority, Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and National Society of Clean Air as well as Government (through a number of Government research contracts).

He has served on numerous Professional and European Committees and Working Groups concerned with transport and the environment, and has worked with a wide spectrum of people from Ministers and Civil Servants to local residents.

He has expertise on a wide range of topics including contaminated land, air quality, noise and vibration, water resources and waste.

He has also been responsible for construction management on a number of large civil engineering projects.

Mark's experience will provide a valuable steer, particularly to the strategy for the new Planet working group.

Graham Anderson is Managing Director of Peak Quality Homes, a distinguished regional house-building operation and also the Hallmark Group of companies founded in 1959.

Graham, a Chartered Town Planner with a BA(Hons) Degree in Town Planning, has worked in the construction industry for over 25years with a successful track record in developing business in a major plc and several smaller companies.

Graham is Chairman of the Construction Industry Council South-East, Vice-Chair of the RTPI South-East Management Board and an external judge for the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards.

As Chair of CIC-SE, Graham has recently been elected as an Economic Partner on the South-East England Regional Assembly (SEERA).

Graham recognises the distinct benefits that membership of SECBE can bring to his own company; particularly work relating to the Planning Process and more specifically the Planner/Developer dialogue and Training for Councillors.

"I am keen to drive such aspects which will clearly have a significant impact on future business success and prosperity, and our ability to deliver a strong performance in the built environment sector.

Bob Heathfield, Chairman of SECBE is delighted to welcome Mark and Graham to the Board.

"SECBE has grown rapidly and I think this is because our operating environment is changing so quickly - changes in legislation, processes, technology, and culture to manage human and natural resources.

Member businesses are increasingly in need and benefiting from the support that SECBE provides.

These are exciting times for us and both appointments will strengthen SECBE's Management Board in its second year of operation." Retiring members include Angus Foster, Regional Director-CIOB and Chair of CIC-SE; Andrew Edwards, Director- ETC; Phil Wilding, Director - Wilding Butler; and Nicholas Cursley, Development Manager- London and Quadrant Housing Trust.

SECBE greatly appreciates their support during its SECBE's first year of operation.
