Zero carbon buildings seminars
Zero carbon buildings will be discussed at one of the seminars that will run at the Homes for Good Exhibition 2007.
Just before Christmas the Government released a package of major new policies and proposals on sustainable building, including the Code for Sustainable Homes, a target that by 2016 all new homes in England and Wales will be zero carbon and a Planning Policy Statement (PPS) on Climate Change They will significantly reshape the way we plan and construct buildings and have important implications for everyone involved in the construction industry

'Build sustainably, live sustainably' -this is the message that the Somerset Trust for Sustainable Development (STSD) will be conveying during the Homes for Good Exhibition 2006.

Somerset Trust for Sustainable Development organised the exhibition to demonstrate new sustainable building techniques for self builds or those wanting eco-friendly lifestyle advice.
Sustaining the green theme
South West Eco-Homes is celebrating the completion of its new 'green' show home at Great Bow Yard in Langport.
The Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) - The Code for Sustainable Homes and the Climate Change PPS: What, Why and How?.
DCLG will talk on the new Code for Sustainable Homes and the Climate Change PPS, covering the details of the new policies, why they have been introduced and how the Code can be achieved.
The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) [invited] - How will the Climate Change PPS affect new developments? RTPI will provide advice and information on how the new Planning Policy Statement (PPS) on Climate Change will affect the planning and construction of new developments from big to small.
2pm - 4pm Policy and practice of low carbon and zero carbon buildings.
The Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) - The new homes zero carbon target DCLG will talk on the Government's recently announced target that by 2016 all new homes in England and Wales will be zero carbon, covering the details of the new policy and why it has been introduced.
The South West Regional Assembly and Faber Maunsell - Building zero carbon homes in the South West The draft Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) for the South West contains a policy that all major developments in the SW should be zero carbon.
The Regional Assembly will provide information on that policy and why it was included in the RSS.
Faber Maunsell has been undertaking some research on behalf of the SW Regional Assembly and other regional agencies looking at how zero carbon buildings can be achieved in the SW, and will present the findings of their research for the first time in public.
South West EcoHomes - A zero carbon development case study.
Following on from its award winning development of sustainable homes at Great Bow Yard in Somerset, developer South West EcoHomes is working on a zero carbon project at Stawell near Street in Somerset, one of a number of new developments it is moving forward with.
SW EcoHomes will show how a zero carbon development can be achieved based on its plans for Stawell.
Attendance is only GBP5 per seminar.
Now in its fourth year, Homes for Good is a highly successful and well-attended event, attracting an average of 2,500 visitors per day ranging from construction industry professionals - such as builders, developers, architects, planners, engineers, consultants, surveyors, manufacturers and suppliers - to clients and homebuyers.
It is designed to demonstrate how buildings can be designed, built and lived in sustainably, as well as aiming to assist the development of the market and supply chain of sustainable materials and services by bringing customers and suppliers together under one roof.
This year, for the first time, Homes for Good includes CPD seminars for construction industry and related professionals.
Homes for Good also includes more than 85 exhibitors, covering renewable energy including solar, wind, biomass and heat pumps, water saving devices and rainwater harvesting, natural paints and varnishes, timber framing, green roofs, strawbale building, lime, co-housing, windows and doors, sustainable insulation, energy efficient lighting, books and education, furniture, composting and cob building.
Homes for Good is a not-for-profit event organised by the Somerset Trust for Sustainable Development (STSD), a charitable trust formed to promote sustainable building.
The exhibition is on from 10am - 4pm on Friday 9th and Saturday 10 February at the Winter Gardens conference and exhibition centre in Weston-Super-Mare.
