Forty years of years experience in the electrical industry and a fantastic workforce has made Warwickshire based Barkbury Electrical Services Limited, a subsidiary of SOL West Midlands, the success story it is today Barkbury Director, David Moore's expertise in this sector has certainly paid off as he now looks at a business with a GBP1.75m turnover in after just over four years

Within 12 months of being approached by Crosbee and Atkins to service their electrical work, a beneficial takeover was in place with interested party SOL West Midlands.

Barkbury Electrical has simply not looked back since then.

David Moore started out with just three members of staff and three operatives and has seen a steady increase in turnover and workforce.

The company now stands at 27 operatives and seven members of staff as well as four apprentices.

David is justifiably proud of his close-knit team saying, "Everyone works extremely well, there's a sense of mutual trust, the team is well motivated and loyal which is demonstrated by our minimal staff turnover".

Barkbury Electrical insists on employing operatives direct, as this assures excellent quality of service.

Barkbury has always had a strong training ethic.

That is something that has paid dividends in a business sector where skill shortages are a real problem.

Apprentices have proved to be invaluable to Barkbury allowing business expansion with the firm foundation of a highly skilled team.

"Many people just don't recognise the benefits of apprenticeships, but as well as developing staff that have sound skills, apprentices also gain an early understanding of our business and the way in which we work".

"It is also good to employ people from our local community as local knowledge is also useful, particularly as we are involved in the maintenance of much community housing," David added.

For Barkbury, the union with SOL West Midlands has been hugely beneficial, providing the necessary financial support it needed to achieve such rapid growth.

Barkbury has carved out a name for itself in the social housing and local authority sector across the Midlands.

Desirable through that work is standards and quality must be high and service is paramount.

"When repairs are required they have to be done quickly and efficiently, so it is no small matter to have a fleet of 25 vans on the road to ensure swift service," he commented It is true that Barkbury has enjoyed rapid success, but what does David Moore ultimately attribute that to?.

"No one thing, but a combination of good people, investment in skills and the financial backing to develop infrastructure have been crucial".

"However, if you don't service the client well you won't get very far".

"Service has to be paramount".
