Solaglas celebrate a first for ILVA UK
Solaglas Contracting North won the contract to provide the structural glazing for the two-storey flagship store for ILVA UK.
It will be one of the first buildings to be completed within the 42 acre, £800m Grosvenor development in the city centre - the biggest project of its kind in Europe.
Solaglas were awarded the project to glaze the envelope of the building in June 2005 from David McLean Contractors Limited and are due to complete the installation in April 2006.
The unique development, flanked by two Listed Edwardian buildings, has offered many design challenges to the contractors involved, including the creation of 'golden pods' protruding from the building, clad in brass and flush point glazed by Solaglas.
Due to the originality of the building design, Solaglas have worked extensively with CZWG to ensure that their aesthetic requirements have been met without compromise.
A bullnose extrusion with gold infil and end caps has been specially developed by Technal for the Mullion and Transom aerofoil caps stopping at each point.
The building envelope consists of curtain walling with concealed vents.

Sealed units throughout the building consist of SGG Parsol Future N Green with curved rather than facetted glass following the curvaceous contours of the building.
SGG Seralit screen-printed glass framing the entrance and forming spandrel panels to the ground floor.
Despite on-site challenges such as space restrictions, Solaglas's project Manager Rob Newman reports that the project is running smoothly and to schedule.
