Solaglas Contracting Scotland provide expert advice on the Technal Trame system selected for the highly contemporary, wedge-shaped building designed by Chris Stewart Architects

The Wedge in Glasgow, is a recently completed glazing project by Solaglas Contracting Scotland.

This highly contemporary, wedge-shaped building designed by Chris Stewart Architects and constructed by Kier houses a new community resource - The Greater Pollok Social Inclusion Partnership.

Interior layout consists of community meeting rooms, a cafe, activity spaces and office facilities for various local community groups.

Selected for their local presence and fabrication expertise, Solaglas Contracting Scotland, were able to provide expert advice on the Technal Trame system selected for the complex structure.

To ensure the design brief was met, both Solaglas and Technal attended meetings with the architect to ensure that the solution would meet the architects exacting criteria.

As natural ventilation was an important issue concealed vents were added to the curtain wall without sacrificing the clean lines and consistent appearance across the building envelope.

The final specification for the Technal system used MC6631, 150mm mullions and MC6629, 68mm transom.

Pressure plates and cover caps were applied to the perimeter and intermediate joints were silicon sealed.

Glazing consisted of 3 different unit specifications.

Vision Panes used 6mm SGG PLANILUX SECURIT toughened safety glass panels to the outer and 6.4 mm SGG STADIP PLANITHERM low E, laminated safety glass to the inner leaf with a 16mm airfilled cavity.

Modesty Panes were given a sandblasted finish to the cavity side whilst Spandrel Areas combined 6mm SGG PLANILUX SECURIT with 6mm SGG EMALIT Grey, a colour enamelled glass and 75mm Foil Backed Mineral Wool Insulation.
