SGG Privalite for the Channel 5 newsreaders

A Solaglas product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team May 20, 2005

Solaglas Structural Contracting awarded contract to produce state-of the art studio screens using SGG Priva-lite, the electronically operated vision control glass.

When Sky News won the prestigious contract to present Channel 5 News from January, they created a purpose built studio located at Sky's studio complex in Isleworth, West London.

Having previously worked with the media giant, Solaglas Structural Contracting were immediately awarded the contract to produce state-of the art studio screens using SGG Priva-lite, the electronically operated vision control glass.

The screens are sited behind the news readers allowing alternating back projected images to appear.

In the 'off' state, the glass has the resemblance of acid etched glass, yet when connected to an electrical current, liquid crystals within the glass align, making the glass appear transparent.

To compensate for the studio light reflections, screens have been curved, faceted and laid at angles following extensive tests carried out at the manufacturing plant in Belgium.
