Prestigious contracts worth in excess will provide aluminium windows and structural glazing for new build hospital extensions in Liverpool, Blackpool and Blackburn.

No fewer than three NHS contracts awarded to Solaglas Contracting North during 2004 are all due for completion in the first half of 2005.

The prestigious contracts worth in excess of £1.9 million will provide aluminium windows and structural glazing for new build hospital extensions in Liverpool, Blackpool and Blackburn.

At Broadgreen Hospital in Liverpool, Contracting North secured an order worth £630K from main contractor Norwest Holst.

The extension will house the hospital's brand new Cardio Thorassic Centre.

For Blackpool Victoria Hospital's Cardio Centre, Solaglas, Technal and Spanwall developed a special new section to fully integrate with the cladding system, creating a completely smooth facade without protruding head and cill details.

As a new product development, a sample of the system had to be tested at Technal's facilities in Leeds for windloading, air and water permeability.

The results met all requirements and gained approval from both the architect and main contractor - Laing O'Rourke.

Both hospitals were contracted via the partnering Procure 21 system.

The third contract, funded by PFI and leased to the NHS will be an extension of the Queen's Park Hospital, Blackburn.

Having secured the building contract, Balfour Beatty awarded preferred supplier Contracting North, a project worth in excess of £800K Due to the exposure of this site, the team had to design, develop and manufacture bespoke windows to withstand high winds and extreme weather conditions.

The final designs were tested at the Taylor Woodrow facility in Leighton Buzzard upto windloads of 2,700pa, with air and water permeability upto 675ps.

All three projects are using a combination of Low E glass, SGG Planitherm and SGG Cool-lite.
