Tesco gets a little extra from Solaglas

A Solaglas product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jul 16, 2008

New Tesco Extra store in Hull has a 109.7 metre long section of firescreen amounting to some 1065m2 of glazing from Solaglas Structural Contracting.

Contractors HBG Construction approached Solaglas because of the considerable expertise required to make architects Holder Mathias Architects' design a reality.

Working with Wrightstyle ., the steel glazing systems supplier, Solaglas Structural Contracting created two firescreens to divide the first floor and car park from the main St Stephens shopping mall.

Solaglas Structural Contracting was not only able to complete the firescreen project but did so within the specified timescale of 16 weeks with the Solaglas team leaving site on the Tuesday prior to the store's Thursday opening.

Solaglas Contracting is a category one supplier for HBG and has also worked with the contractor on Willow Place in Corby, Kingsway Shopping Centre in Newport, Hedge End and Cardiff MandS stores and Bath Row in Birmingham.

The St Stephens development has been designed to resemble an underground high street and comprises retail units for major high street brands including HandM, Next, Body Shop, Zara and Topshop.

ING Real Estate and Yorkshire Forward created the development which is owned by British Land.
