Solaglas delivers sustainability for development

A Solaglas product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Sep 30, 2008

Glass and glazing specialist Solaglas Contracting Midlands has completed the curtain walling, windows and doors for the award winning River Crescent, a stunning new apartment development.

Solaglas was appointed by main contractor Clegg Construction and the development was designed by Franklin Ellis Architects, which Solaglas worked with previously on Archers Exchange - an unusual, kidney shaped student accommodation building in Nottingham.

Double glazed window units consisting of Antelio Emerald Solar Control and low E glass were specified to meet environmental performance requirements and for their aesthetic appeal.

More than 150 windows, 200 tilt and slide patio doors and 60 horizontal sliders were supplied and installed by Solaglas.

In addition, the team provided opaque curtain walling to the stair towers and faceted screens around the circular fire escape stairs, incorporating highly unusual curved glass which Solaglas sourced from Finland.

100 aluminium fire rated windows were fitted to the rear elevation of the building.

Aluminium was specified for its visual appearance and durability, with each window filled with a special fire resistant board to meet the required one hour fire rated standard.
