SPC Airdor air curtains range expands

Air curtains can be used as ambient curtains for use in cold stores, etc where an effective seal is required for a chilled area

The majority of people associate air curtains with providing a heated curtain of air to act as a means of preventing loss of heated or conditioned air to the external atmosphere.

Whilst this is eminently true, air curtains can also be used as ambient curtains for use in cold stores, etc where an effective seal is required for a chilled area.

The great advantage of using this style of unit is that you no longer need to have the cumbersome plastic strips normally associated with such applications.

Vehicles and pedestrian traffic can move easily and unobstructed through the entrances without any significant effect on the chilled room temperature.

Naturally, all the benefits you associate with the warm air curtain also apply here - no ingress of external contaminants such as traffic fumes, pollen or dust particles and the like.

Air curtains, whether for warm or ambient air, need to be sized correctly and the correct airflow determined if turbulence or poor curtain area are to be avoided.

The curtain should also be designed into the building at the design stage, and not as an afterthought, although it is of course possible to provide an effective retro-fit installation, as long as there is sufficient operational area ( the unit should be larger than the doorway).

Units are available for horizontal or vertical mount and a range of controls are optionally provided, although in most cases ambient units are on for most of the time so only need very simple controls.
