L'Oreal Keeps Just As Warm With Half The Heating

A Spirax Sarco product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jul 1, 2004

Two Spirax Sarco EasiHeat Engineered Systems have replaced a single large hot water boiler to provide space heating at the L'Oreal factory in Wales.

Each EasiHeat is rated at half the capacity of the old boiler, yet they are so efficient that only one has been needed to provide all the heating necessary, even during the coldest winter days.

"We thought we would need to run both EasiHeats in parallel, yet we have been able to keep one on standby all the time," Says Mr Nigel Withers, Engineering Projects and Maintenance Manager, L'Oreal.

Apart from the fuel cost savings this achieves, Mr Withers points to another benefit: "We have had some warm days this winter and we have been able to switch off the EasiHeat unit to make further savings.

This wasn't possible with the boiler, which would run continuously throughout the winter from the time it was fired up in about October." Lower maintenance costs will be a further advantage.

Not only are the EasiHeat units easier to maintain, but they do not need the costly statutory inspection that the old boiler had to be subjected to annually.

Spirax Sarco EasiHeat is a compact steam-to-water heat exchange package for the supply of hot water.

Its precisely matched combination of controls, plate heat exchanger and condensate removal equipment ensures the delivery of the right amount of hot water, at the correct temperature, exactly when required.

The L'Oreal facility, in Llantrisant, is a key manufacturing centre, for L'Oreal in Europe, manufacturing haircare and styling products.

More than 60% of the factory's output is exported.
