Ingress of water into data cabling systems
Jezmat System protects cables within the confines of a building structure, providing a flat cabling surface for high volumes of data cables.
It's common knowledge that electrics and water should be kept as far away from each other as possible.
Generally wiring installations are installed well away from any water systems.
However, very little consideration is given to the possibility of flooding.
Recent reports suggest that London is under threat from the risk of serious flooding that could cause damage running into billions of pounds to commercial industries.
The ingress of water into the data cabling system can have a disastrous effect on its ability to function properly.
Large scale flooding is by no means the only cause of serious damage to IT systems.
As little as 5mm of water on the floor surface can be enough to cause major damage to IT cables.
Replacing a wet damaged cabling systems can be time consuming, disruptive and costly.
The best policy is to prevent the cables from getting wet in the first place.
Greater consideration must be given to methods of installation and protecting the cables.
It is no longer acceptable to run these cables in raised floor locations directly onto an uneven surface or to bump over the ribs in a standard cable basket, as this can induce deformation in the signal being transmitted.
Greater care is also required to ensure there is no ingress of water penetration in the wiring looms as this again can effect the data transmission.
To meet the level of protection required for the cables, the Jezmat cable protection and containment system has been developed.
The Jezmat System is a product that has been developed for the protection of cables within the confines of a building structure.
Specifically designed to provide a flat cabling surface for high volumes of data cables.
The material is both lightweight and very strong.
It is tough, durable and impact resistant and will not compress under cable load.
Also, it is non toxic, resistant to chemicals, waterproof and anti-static..
The raised system can be manufactured in virtually any width and height and is only restricted by the available area beneath the raised floor.
The Jezmat sheeting is thermally formed into a 'C' section profile.
No fittings are required with this system other than the abutment of the raised section to each other.
Raised pan areas can also be manufactured using the same system alleviating congestion in areas of high cable concentrations such as computer rooms and sub equipment rooms.
Pan areas allow the use of all the usable area below the raised floor.
Complete and massive areas can be fabricated off-site.
The Jezmat system has a proven track record, used in major financial institution data centres.
In one particular instance, three times the same floor area was flooded and on each occasion not one piece of cable or matting was replaced, saving the customer 20 times the total project cost of the matting on each occasion.
