West Byfleet Health Centre Made Better

A Sprunt product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jun 27, 2003

In a bid to deliver high quality primary healthcare to the community, design and consultancy practice Sprunt is completing a £5 million redevelopment of West Byfleet Health Centre in Surrey.

Awarded to Sprunt by Apollo Capital Projects, the 3000 sq m, three-storey L-shaped building will accommodate three GP practices with a total of twenty-five GPs, Nurse Practitioners and Registrars as well as space for Woking Area Primary Care Trust - an Apollo Centre for Health and a Pharmacy.

Situated in the town centre and developed on the site of the old Health Centre, each GP practice will have its own waiting area, whilst the PCT will use the premises as a base for community nursing.

The three GP practices and the community nurses were all found temporary accommodation whilst works were in progress.

New primary medical facilities will include minor operations and treatment rooms; chiropody; audiology; visiting services consulting suites; research and teaching facilities as well as extensive GP consulting and community care accommodation.

And in order to locate all consulting areas on one floor, the architects have designed the main accommodation on the second and third floors, which in turn provides good access onto the site for all visitors including those with physical disabilities.

Furthermore, with premises now three times larger than before, Sprunt has redesigned the traffic flow through the site in order to significantly improve traffic congestion in the area.

Additional car parking spaces are also being made available.

"The scheme has been extremely well received by the local residents and the GPs are delighted with the modern accommodation," said John Turner, Sprunt.

"We are delighted to have had the opportunity to work with Apollo and to further strengthen the close working relationship between our two companies.".
