Design and consultancy firm Sprunt has completed works to Ferry Lane School on Ferry Lane Housing Estate in Tottenham, north London.

Design and consultancy firm Sprunt has completed works to Ferry Lane School on Ferry Lane Housing Estate in Tottenham, north London.

The GBP300,000 project to provide a new nursery school, and improve security fencing follows recommendations made by the architects in a recent feasibility study.

Sprunt's imaginative scheme involved relocation of the existing nursery accommodation to the front of the building to help rationalise the school arrangement.

An existing, temporary classroom has also been removed.

Working together with Portakabin, Sprunt's innovative design features Portakabin's 'Lilliput' nursery system which has been integrated into the school's existing structure via a link building.

The new nursery provides a bright and cheerful main activity space opening onto a timber-decked, covered external play area.

An existing 1.5 metre-high rusty chain-link perimeter fence and brick wall has been replaced by 2.4 metre-high anti-climb fence for improved security.

Providing minimal visual impact, the weldmesh fencing successfully creates a secure enclosure to the school.

"The works were completed under two contracts following a recent feasibility study to identify the most cost-effective and sustainable solution for the school," commented Tony Henson, associate, Sprunt.

"The result has certainly injected a new look and feel to the environment and has been well received by pupils, parents and staff, whilst ensuring optimum security".

The project was carried out as part of Sprunt's ongoing framework agreement with Haringey Council to manage works for the Borough's education and housing departments.
