Lift specialists provide answer for Fire Service

SSL Access, the disability platform lift specialist, has solved an access problem which will allow the Fire Service at Clydebank to expand and improve its vital contribution to the community.

The busy station has recently undergone a substantial re-modelling, which involved increasing its office space and car parking facilities.

But because the building is on a slope, particular issues arose concerning wheelchair access and compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act.

In some buildings, such as the Clydebank Fire Station, building a ramp is not a suitable solution because of the length required to achieve the desired gradient The service turned to SSL, a family-owned firm based in the East End of Glasgow, which specialises in lifts for residential, commercial and industrial settings.

It provided a Melody low-rise lift, from a range designed to lift up to two metres, which met all the requirements.

The GBP12,500 contract is just one of many which have helped the 26-employee firm achieve turnover of GBP3 million and establish a niche as a trusted quality supplier across the sectors.
