Stanley Quickslide utility knife wins award
Stanley's Quickslide utility knife has been awarded Product of the Year by members of the Hardware and Garden Retailers Association (HGRA).
With a little under two weeks to complete the project, the team of 10 UK volunteers led by Child Reach International had to overcome obstacles such as communication barriers with the locals and a lack of building materials, whilst also carrying out back-breaking work in the tropical sun.
Camping in a nearby playing field and working around the clock, the team of unskilled volunteers, plus one trained carpenter and project leader, were able to complete the ambitious project, including installing electrical wiring and lighting, building a new latrine with water connection and erecting a security fence around the 1.5 acre site- all thanks to lots of determination and the Stanley Tools.
"This has been a tough but immensely rewarding challenge," commented Sean Murphy, project leader.

"The people of Mahida made us feel very welcome and it was certainly a once-in-a-lifetime experience for everyone involved".
"It came close to the wire but thankfully we managed to complete the project with just 20 minutes to spare before the grand opening by the Duty High Commissioner for Tanzania!" David Osborne, head of marketing at Stanley, commented: "Stanley was delighted to be involved in this project and it is very rewarding to think our tools have helped build a school and training centre in a village that desperately needed it." Mahida is located in rural Tanzania, eight hours from the country's capital Dar Es Salaam.
With no local amenities it was vital that this project helped to increase standards, as well as provide locals with desperately needed skills and equipment.
The tools provided by Stanley have been left at the new vocational training centre adjacent to the local school.
The hope is that the villagers, many of whom worked alongside the project team, will now use the skills they have learnt to work on future projects independently and the tools will play an important part of this.
Sean continued: "The hand tools and equipment were a god send and I would like to personally thank the team at Stanley for their support".
"Not only did they make light work of the tasks at hand, but the equipment was warmly received by the locals who simply cannot get hold of such high quality tools.".
