Channel Island challenge for SWA member

A Steel Window Association product story

One of the most visually striking and historically important properties in the Channel Islands has been completely refurbished with a member of the Steel Window Association undertaking the restoration and replacement of the original fenestration.

The house on Jersey's Atlantic coastline is a fine example of an Art Deco style residence.

With the property being Grade I listed under the States of Jersey system, the owner engaged the St Helier-based architectural practice of Axis Mason to supervise the project.

While Stansells QVC Limited was the main contractor on the project, Steel Window Service was the SWA member awarded a contract to restore the windows.

The work involved producing dozens of windows and French doors using either W20 or SMW (Standard Metal Window) F series sections.

Steel Window Service removed all of the existing solid brass hardware - including a number of full height espagnolettes - to the company's workshops in London.

There they were renovated and satin chrome plated before being reinstalled on the specially adapted replacement frames, that were themselves galvanized and polyester powder coated.

Another challenging aspect of the contract for the SWA member was the restoration of a sliding/folding faceted rear window.

This had to be removed, de-rusted, fully renovated and powder coated prior to being installed back in the opening.
