""In that scenario we thought steel sections which combine strength, durability and delicately minimal sight lines were clearly a far better option than aluminium.
The capacity to engineer and customise the system was also an important consideration, along with the total compatibility between the steel frames and the structural steel supports.
We think it has clearly paid off both in quality, performance and appearance".
"The main block in the development contains 26 flats selling to key workers under a shared equity scheme along with 14 flats and 9 houses for rent in two other linked buildings".
"(In total there are 49 dwellings plus commercial and retail accommodation)".
"The top two floors of the main block feature a ribbon of 32 steel window frames, with the other three levels extending to runs of 41 frames".
"The steel framing extends vertically to provide a glazed parapet edging to the roof".
"The windows were all fabricated by Senlac using the tried and trusted W20 sections, renowned for their slim sightlines and long spanning capabilities".
"The glazing is of 9.2 mm thick laminated glass, and while the majority of the units are fixed, Senlac also fitted a series of smoke vents rising up the elevation".
"Malcolm Taylor, Joint Chief Executive of Senlac Windows and Doors comments: "This is an innovative use of steel in a rainscreen/acoustic barrier application, utilitising hot dip galvanized Senlac 20 glazing, incorporating automatic opening casements and internal handrails with "in house" polyester paint factory finish Senlac PB corridor doors".
""We worked closely with main contractors, Hilife Construction and Walter Menteth Architects, and the project was completed on time and on budget".
