Entries are now being invited for the 13th Natural Stone Awards, organised by the Stone Federation Great Britain.

Entries are now being invited for the 13th Natural Stone Awards, organised by the Stone Federation Great Britain.

These are the most prestigious awards available to those who work with stone, whether they are specifying, supplying or building.

The 2006 awards are divided into different categories, including new build, repair and restoration, interiors, landscaping and craftsmanship.

They showcase projects, large and small, that have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in both design and execution.

"The awards are highly prestigious and celebrate the use of this attractive, traditional, yet vitally modern building material," explained the Federation's director Jane Buxey.

"It's a wonderful way in which to get your work, and that of your team, universally recognised as being of the very highest standards".

""Among the points the judging panel of internationally recognised architects will take into consideration are evidence of innovation, the quality of workmanship and a sympathy of scale with surrounding buildings.

"What these awards demonstrate quite clearly is the way modern technology combines with the ancient skills of the stone mason to produce some of the most exciting and beautiful construction, renovation and restoration projects within the building industry over the past year".

Entries must be received by April 21 and in the first instance must include written and photographic evidence about the entry as well as a completed entry form.

Award winners will be announced at a lunch in London's Millennium Hotel on November 24, hosted by a celebrity speaker.

English Heritage, British Slate Association, Construction Industry Training Board and the National Federation of Builders are among the award sponsors.
