Seminar on 'waste' soil from construction

A STATS product story

STATS next in a series of highly popular half-day seminars is Sustainable Remedial Solutions: Treatment, Re-use and Disposal of 'Waste' Soil.

Consultancy firm STATS Limited has announced details of the next in a series of highly popular half-day seminars.

Located at the University of Hertfordshire Fielder Centre on 20th November 2007, the seminar title will be: Sustainable Remedial Solutions: Treatment, Re-use and Disposal of 'Waste' Soil.

Stats Director Jon Clark believes that this seminar is particularly well timed, adding, "The uncertainties and constraints associated with the re-use of soils on construction sites has been a real barrier to sustainable remediation in recent years, whilst the practical difficulties in classifying contaminated soils for disposal to landfill often result in unexpected cost increases during development".

"Simplification of the remediation licensing regime; new requirements from 31st October 2007 for the pre-treatment of non-hazardous waste prior to landfill; increasing landfill disposal costs; and the development of soil treatment centres, are finally expected to herald the end of 'dig and dump' as the preferred remediation option in the UK.

It is our intention that this seminar will provide delegates with a clear view of the options available to ensure greater cost certainty and sustainability in the redevelopment of brownfield sites".

This seminar will cover important topics such as the definition of waste, the regulation of land remediation, the disposal and treatment of contaminated soil, and sustainable brownfield remediation.

An impressive list of senior level speakers has been assembled from the Environment Agency, Taylor Wimpey Developments, Biffa Remediation Services, Tamdown Regeneration and Stats.

The target audience will include commercial and residential property developers, property investors, project managers, quantity surveyors, Local Authority and Environment Agency officers, planning consultants, engineers, surveyors, contractors and others interested in brownfield redevelopment.

Following the seminar, a personalised CPD certificate will be issued to delegates and the cost (to cover venue and refreshments) will be GBP50 + VAT.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis - anyone wishing to attend should email info@Stats.co.uk .
