Future and trends at the 2009 Surface Design Show
Surface Design Show is the UK's only event to focus exclusively on surface solutions for the built environment.
The Surface Design Show at the Business Design Centre, London, 10th-12th February 2009, will feature the greatest range of features, talks and innovative products to date.
The event has established itself as a must-see event for architects, designers and specifiers by offering visitors the opportunity to touch and feel some of the most vibrant and innovative products from around the world.
The Show opens with the renowned VIP Preview Evening (Tuesday, 10th February, 6-9pm) which, in addition to allowing visitors their first opportunity to see the latest innovative surface solutions in building design, will feature a special RIBA Building Futures live debate chaired by RIBA President Sunand Prasad.
The debate will feature contributions from Nicholas Ray - architect and author of Architecture and Its Ethical Dilemmas - and Irena Bauman - of Bauman Lyons Architects and author of How to Be a Happy Architect.
This exciting and controversial debate will begin at 7.30pm during the Preview Evening and will explore the subject of Professional Ethics in the 21st Century.
On Wednesday, 11th February (6-9pm), visitors are given a second opportunity to visit the show while having the opportunity to hear from one of the leading voices in design.
The Surface Design Show's Gala Evening will feature the multi-award winning designer Sebastian Conran.
Sebastian will be looking at the importance of authenticity in surface design as well as taking questions from the audience following his presentation.
Sebastian has worked with a number of the world's leading surface manufacturers, including exhibitor ege carpets, whose Conran-designed Visual Textures range was launched at the 2007 Surface Design Show.
The 2009 edition of the Surface Design Show will also feature brand new sections, including the 'Green Surfaces' and 'Surface Innovations' zones.
Green Surfaces will showcase an extensive selection of the most visually inspiring, sustainable, recyclable and renewable materials available for contemporary building design.
Devised in response to calls from the architectural and design industries, Green Surfaces promises to feature an impressive array of the most environmentally friendly products available in surface design.
Meanwhile, the Surface Innovations zone will focus on the latest stimulating materials and technologies emerging from the design industry today.
This exciting new area promises to present revolutionary products for both internal and external surfaces.
A number of the industry's most creative manufacturers will be exhibiting their latest designs, including patination specialists Capisco, stretch ceiling providers Barrisol and solid-surfacing manufacturer Velstone.
