Industry commentators leading the future of surface design and specification will be present at The Surface Design Show at the Business Design Centre, London.

The show's Preview night on Tuesday 16 February, starting at 18.00, will open with a live debate 'This House believes the road to recovery is paved with.....

discussing the future of business, governance, ecology and society.

The night will be hosted by RIBA Building Futures with former Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone; economist, Will Hutton; engineer and technologist Mark Whitby and architect, Cecile Brisac.

The evening will be chaired by Imperial College London's Prof David Fisk.

The Gala Evening (Wednesday 17 February starting at 18.00) will see the British Interior Design Association (BIDA) hosting a discussion with Rene Dekker of SHH Architects and keynote guest Annabelle Filer of surfaces and material agency SCIN.

A host of seminars will take place during the show in the BRE Green Guide Theatre, whilst the Construction Products Association will explore sustainability and energy efficiency with a series of inspiring lectures.

The Building Research Establishment (BRE) Global will be presenting a series of eight seminars providing guidance for the specification of particular surfaces, examining in detail their environmental performance, and how construction products can be sourced responsibly.

Exclusive to The Surface Design Show, RIBA London will bring together some of the best schemes from its 2009 Award year in two one hour lunchtime lectures on Wed 17 and Thurs 18 February beginning at 13.00.

Grimshaw Architects and S333 Architects, will profile landmark projects, the UCL Cancer Institute and The Tarling Estate.

This will be followed with a discussion and questions to the project architects.

The Construction Products Association will host two seminars focusing on sustainability and energy efficiency.

These seminars will provide visitors with insight into the energy efficiency regulations to be implemented in April 2010, and explore the subject of responsible sourcing of building materials, along with a workshop dedicated to the latest innovations in surface materials.

On Wednesday 17 Feb at 14.00, John Tebbit, Industry Affairs Director of the Construction Products Association, looks at the changes in Part L for 2010 and how they will affect surface materials.

On Thursday 18 Feb at 12.00, Jane Thornback, Sustainability Policy Advisor at the Construction Products Association, will discuss the different notions of what is meant by responsible sourcing of materials and products.

The Surface Design Show will be held from the 16 to 18 February 2010.
