Underground waste collection system
Sulo's new Sentinel Iceberg system can be deployed to provide centralised and strictly regulated refuse or recycling material collection facilities for approved users
Sulo's new Sentinel Iceberg underground waste collection system has a lockable receiver mechanism making it inaccessible to anyone who does not possess the necessary electronic card or key to open the unit.
Standard design Icebergs are already proving very popular with local authorities for underground waste and recycled materials collection.
The Sentinel Iceberg, with its lockable receiver mechanism in place, takes this innovative system one stage further by providing the facility for regulated waste collection at central refuse points at both private and commercial premises.
The use of an underground system removes many of the hazards traditionally associated with waste left outside premises: arson, fly tipping and foraging by animals and the Sentinel Iceberg also prevents the deposit of unauthorised waste.
Sulo's Sentinel Iceberg system consists of a galvanised steel waste collection container within an underground pit, constructed from reinforced cast concrete, which remains watertight.
The only visible element of the system at ground level is a steel platform with its integral compact lockable receiver unit through which the refuse is deposited.
The receivers, made of powder-coated galvanised steel, are attractively designed to blend harmoniously with the surrounding streetscape.
The Sentinel Iceberg features a 'night safe'-style receiver unit activated by electronic cards or keys which will only work if the user has the authority.
Data from the entry system can be transferred via GSM to meet any future requirements for 'producer-pays' schemes, where users are billed each time they use the facility.
The data also provides an alert when the Sentinel Iceberg is full, enabling more efficient, just-in-time emptying.
The Sentinel Iceberg container, platform and receiver are assembled as a single unit.
To empty the container a crane mounted on the collection vehicle engages with concealed hooks at the top of the receiver which is then lifted, complete with the platform and container.
The contents of the container are emptied into the collection vehicle through base flaps activated via the crane lift mechanism.
The Sentinel Iceberg system can be deployed to provide centralised and strictly regulated refuse or recycling material collection facilities for approved users, while barring access to non-approved users and preventing unauthorised dumping of refuse.
