Remote Control From Super Rod

A Super Rod product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Oct 10, 2005

Remote wireless cameras, Super Cam, can go through a down light hole or lighting recess.

We all know the frustration and time-wasting that a blocked or stubborn cable run causes.

Now imagine yourself James Bond-style, coolly deploying a neat little remote video camera to have a good look around the scene of the crime on a palm sized receiver.

You hardly have to lift a finger! Such camera inspection-kits come pretty high up on people's wish lists, however, four-figure prices and trailing cables are some of the reasons why many wouldn't entertain owning one.

Super Rod have thought long and hard, listened to what electricians actually need and encapsulated this knowledge to produce a high quality product devoid of these downsides.

Never has the electrical trade been offered all they need in a single camera kit - until now that is.

Remote wireless cameras are not as small as we often assume, (unless you have the CIA's budget that is!), those tiny cameras you see on spy TV programmes are attached to transmitters and power packs hidden beneath clothing.

Somehow Super Rod's clever designers have managed to pack everything into a 75mm long x 28mm diameter housing - including enough lighting to give you a clear, crisp black and white, real time image; an hour of rechargeable battery life and the maximum legal transmission power.

To quote Peter, Super Rod's R and D boff, "It's just about impossible to get the camera unit any smaller".

"Adding a camera facility to a mobile phone is straightforward because it can piggy back on the existing power supply, lighting and transmission circuitry; but as a standalone unit its much harder and we've had to be quiet inventive".

Selling at about one fifth of other equipment on the market, the James Bond fantasy is within reach.

It's no surprise that Super Rod has applied for a patent! The Super Cam has undergone many field tests - the following comment is from one independent test electrician.

"We often find cables get trapped between plasterboard and joists, this can be an absolute nightmare and often results in ripping down large portions of the ceiling to find the cables".

"We now poke Super Cam through a down light hole or lighting recess and find the problem straight away".

"It's brilliant, simple to use and saves us so much time and hassle".

Adding more value.

Two unique adaptors have been designed to make the camera more versatile.

The Glow-Rod adaptor with Swivel End, is a short (150mm) photo luminescent rod which gives you a clear visual of the camera's location.

The 'Flexi Neck' adaptor is perfect for setting the camera angle before use.

Both are equipped with a locking thread mechanism to prevent accidental unscrewing.

These are versatile, clever little extras that help view difficult to see areas.

The complete kit (camera, receiver, adaptors and charger) is supplied in a strong shock-proof case with clear instructions for use.

Costing around GBP500 the Super Cam is an excellent investment - until now, camera systems would set you back five times the price and more.
