Constructing Better Health, the Leicestershire based occupational health support pilot for the construction sector has been launched

Constructing Better Health, the Leicestershire based occupational health support pilot for the construction sector was launched on October 22nd at Braunstone Leisure Centre in Leicester.

Representatives of a wide range of organisations including building contractors, trade bodies, union representatives and business support organisations attended.

Patricia Hewitt, MP for Leicester West, Rob Lambe, operations director at Willmott Dixon and Elaine Sherlock, departmental health and safety advisor for regeneration and culture at Leicester City Council, voiced support for Constructing Better Health.

In addition David Brickliffe of mechanical and electrical contractors Rosser and Russell and bricklayer Ian Hodgkinson described their experience of ill health in construction and how they believed Constructing Better Health would help the industry.

Constructing Better Health aims to help employees and owners of small or medium building companies either based or working in Leicestershire to reduce the financial and personal costs that result from ill health caused or worsened by their work.

It offers a range of free and confidential services that provide information, guidance, training and practical support.

The Constructing Better Health website is at www.fitbuilder.com and the Helpline is open from 9.00am until 5.30pm Monday to Friday on 0116 281 3537.

George Brumwell, chair of the Constructing Better Health board comments: "The launch of Constructing Better Health has been made possible by the persistent efforts of people from across the industry.

It marks the beginning of the end of poor health in construction." Keith Beaumont, chief executive of Braunstone Community Association says: 'We are very supportive of the Constructing Better Health project and we're delighted that it has been launched in Braunstone.

We want to see healthy and safe construction and lots of it!'.
