More backers for health scheme

Backing for the industry's occupational health support pilot Constructing Better Health continues to grow.

Backing for the industry's occupational health support pilot Constructing Better Health continues to grow with recent financial donation to the project coming from Edmund Nuttall and from Hanson Building products.

Constructing Better health was launched in October 2004 and the two-year Leicestershire pilot is being used to determine how a national scheme should work.

Edmund Nuttall's health and safety director Bob Treadgold commented: "Edmund Nuttall is committed to embracing best practice initiatives that have a positive impact on its employees and sub contractors".

"We are therefore pleased to be supporting Constructing Better Health, which aims to determine best practice solutions to help reduce the high levels of ill health in construction".

David Weeks, Hanson's head of communications said: "Recognising and minimising the impact of our operations on the communities in which we operate is core to our business philosophy".

"Constructing Better Health's intention to provide information and guidance to construction workers to enable them to reduce the ill effects of their work sits perfectly with this philosophy so we are delighted to offer our backing for this initiative." Funds for the pilot are held and administered by B and CE Charitable Trust (a registered charity), and organisations donating to the project may be eligible for tax relief of up to 30% on their contribution when made through the Trust.
