Symphony products get global environmental listing

A Symphony product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jul 21, 2008

Kitchen supplier Symphony has achieved a listing on One Planet - the website dedicated to helping buyers reduce the environmental impact of their housing developments.

One Planet Products Group - a joint initiative between the BioRegional Development Group, the World Wildlife Fund and the Building Research Establishment (BRE) - has listed some of Symphony's most popular designs on its site, which aims to make it easier and more cost effective for local authorities and housing managers to specify and use high quality, sustainable products and materials.

Symphony's Marketing Manager Alison Andrews comments: "This is a valuable endorsement of Symphony's environmental commitment and practices".

"The organization reviews every product thoroughly to check out its environmental credentials and lifecycle savings, before it is allowed on the One Planet Product website and buying from the group brings the added value of credits under the BRE EcoHomes accreditation scheme".

Symphony has an extensive track record on environmental strategy and practice and was the first kitchen supplier to achieve the coveted ISO 14001 environmental accreditation.

The company recently added full PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) Chain of Custody certification to its list of eco-accreditations.

The certification, awarded by BM TRADA, covers all Symphony's fitted furniture for the social housing markets, giving developers proof of environmentally-friendly purchase and adds to the company's existing FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Chain of Custody certification, which guarantees that wood used in the manufacture of its products comes from well managed forests, according to strict environmental, social and economic standards.
