Use of StoLotusan Color can play a major part in helping to maintain the clean, modernist look of the building.

A paint demonstrated on Grand Designs will keep exterior walls sparklingly clean The dirt-repelling properties of StoLotusan Color were shown on a recent episode of Channel 4's architecture and self-building programme

The programme followed the build of a modernist family home described as the "sugar cube".

One of the primary concerns of the architect owner and his family was to keep their brilliant white home looking pristine, both internally and externally, and to do this they turned to Sto.

To demonstrate StoLotusan Color the self-cleaning facade paint used on the build, a piece of board coated in the paint was repeatedly dipped into a container full of mud, only for it to come out clean each time.

While some may say it's the work of the devil, there is a scientific reason for this effect.

Water droplets are unable to maintain surface contact with StoLotusan Color, which using nanotechnology mimics the properties of a lotus leaf, and as the water runs off the paint it carries dirt particles with it.

This keeps exterior walls clean and dry, protecting against algae and fungus build-up.

The use of StoLotusan Color will play a major part in helping to maintain the clean, modernist look of the building.

In keeping with the clean lines of the exterior, the interior of the "sugar cube" home is a huge, clutter-free, open-plan space where even the kitchen worktops and sofas are white.

To maintain the clean atmosphere and appearance, StoClimasan Color, the paint chosen for the white walls will also help neutralise kitchen smells.

StoClimasan Color has an air-purifying effect that is based on the natural principle of photosynthesis.

Photocatalysts in the paint are activated by natural and artificial light and work to neutralise unpleasant odours helping to create a harmonious and calm interior.

Sto products are primarily used in the commercial sector, but given the advanced technologies used to create them, can greatly add to the domestic setting.

Sto is proud of the innovative technologies behind its products and is continually working to develop new and unique materials that answer a range of construction and interior design needs.

StoClimasan Color and StoLotusan Color are available to purchase from Sto's newly launched retail site at www.stoshop.co.uk.
