Tarmac has invested 1m pounds to replace and extend the production aspects of its ready-mixed concrete plant near Farnborough, Hampshire These improvements have seen the site - which has been used for the production of concrete since 1973 - updated to the twenty-first century with a new, fully enclosed, environmentally-friendly plant equipped with dual mixing heads to provide the complete concrete supply solution

The prime use is the wet-batch production process which results in a more consistent quality concrete.

When the plant uses the dry-batch process dust extractor fans have been installed to provide additional environmental benefits.

The new plant, imported from Liebherr in Germany and installed over a 20-week period, has the added benefits of significantly higher material storage and production capabilities, whilst maintaining its potential hourly output of up to100m3 ready-mixed concrete for local construction.

Worker and visitor safety is a priority at the new plant bringing it in line with Tarmac's stringent corporate 'Zero Tolerance' Health and Safety policy.

The workflow on site has been completely redesigned to ensure that pedestrians are entirely separated from industrial work and the movement of heavy vehicles.

The staff also benefit from new welfare facilities.

Supplying ready-mixed concrete to projects within a normal 20 mile radius of the Farnborough plant, the company will build on its already excellent reputation for high-quality ready-mixed concrete in the area.

The plant has recently supplied a wide range of local contracts at the Masonic Centre in Guildford, Farnborough Business park, the Paddock Building at Broadmore and the Eli Lilley Research Centre in Farnborough.

Gordon Tuck, area operations manager, comments: "We're extremely pleased to be able to provide the improvements that this new plant will bring to our customers, in terms of added efficiency and supply chain benefits and to our employees and visitors to the plant, who will now enjoy much-improved facilities.".
