TAC Satchwell tunes in to wireless

Building control experts at TAC Satchwell claim the wireless revolution could save up to 80 per cent on the installation costs of BMS systems.
Simply by cutting out the need to install wires between every control point on a lighting or heating network, the wireless approach can save miles of wiring on major installations.
The claim was made as TAC Satchwell launched its Andover Continuum Wireless Solution, the company's first wireless BMS system, which is still based around TAC Satchwell's well-known and flexible open-systems approach.
Roger Moncur from TAC Satchwell said: "We are seeing wireless technology taking off in all walks of life - it is appearing in homes, hotels and offices.
Now TAC Satchwell has made wireless technology a reality for building owners and facilities managers, which, when combined with an effective building management system, can save thousands of pounds in utility bills over the life of the building.
"Wireless is now an incredibly attractive solution when teamed up with our open-systems approach, that allows the end user to mix and match a range of industry-standard equipment from a cross a range of suppliers.
"Wiring alone accounts for between 20 and 80 per cent of the cost of the installation of a BMS system and the benefit of cutting out these costs are obvious.
Wireless adapters are now small and attractive while installation is straightforward and affordable - there is no reason not to consider it.
"Although wherever possible, TAC Satchwell looks to build its BMS and security solutions into a construction project right from the design stage, without the added burden of installing so much wiring we are able now to take a more flexible approach across buildings of all types and ages".
An Andover Continuum Wireless Solution includes:.
* A full line of wireless-enabled Andover Continuum BACnet and Infinet controllers for controlling the largest to the smallest applications - from chillers, cooling towers, boilers and air handling units to packaged HVAC units, heat pumps and fan coils units.
* A wireless adapter/repeater that allows the creation of a wireless mesh network connecting BACnet or Infinet controllers.
* A powerful graphical maintenance tool to help manage and maintain a stable and robust network.
* Cyberstation software that automatically 'discovers' wireless controllers and integrates them into the network.
